Thailand Privilege (Elite visa): packages, privileges and how it works

Last checked 6 October 2026 · 7 min read · English

Thailand Privilege, still widely known as the Thailand Elite visa, is a government-backed membership run by Thailand Privilege Card Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the Tourism Authority of Thailand. You pay once and receive a multiple-entry visa for 5 to 20 years, with no income, age or investment test, plus VIP services at the airport and help with immigration paperwork.

Bronze was introduced as a limited-time entry package and has been extended several times; agents report a further extension to 31 December 2026, so confirm it is still on sale before you apply. Family members can be added on Platinum, Diamond and Reserve; add-on prices and promotions change, so ask for the current rate. Memberships cannot be transferred or refunded once approved, but can be upgraded by paying the difference plus a fee.

Privileges

At the airport

An Elite Personal Assistant meets you on arrival and departure at Suvarnabhumi and Phuket, with a fast-track lane through immigration and VIP lounges at Suvarnabhumi, Phuket and Chiang Mai. Limousine transfers are included, with more on higher tiers.

Help with paperwork

The government concierge (Elite Personal Liaison) helps with 90-day reports, visa extensions, opening a Thai bank account and obtaining a Thai driving licence. On Bronze, this help is more limited.

Privilege points

From Gold upwards, members receive annual points to spend on spa treatments, golf, cultural experiences, shopping and, on Platinum and above, an annual health check-up. What each item costs in points changes, so check the current catalogue.

Who can apply, and how

  1. Check eligibility. Applicants who have been declared bankrupt, sentenced to prison (other than for negligence), deported, or have overstayed or an outstanding warrant are refused. Thai passport holders cannot apply.
  2. Apply online or through an authorised agent, with your passport, photo and application form.
  3. Background check by Thai authorities, typically one to three months depending on nationality.
  4. Pay the membership fee once approved.
  5. Receive the visa at a Thai embassy, or on arrival at the airport.

Who it suits

Retirees of any age, investors, business owners who are paid abroad, and families who want a stable long stay without proving income each year. If you earn well, compare it with the LTR visa, which can be cheaper over ten years and has tax advantages: Thailand Privilege vs LTR.

Kathy's view: Thailand Privilege is the simplest way to stay long-term, and many of our buyers use it while they settle in Bangkok. Its real value is certainty and convenience, not tax. If you plan to live here most of the year and have significant foreign income, check the LTR first, then decide.
